Loughridge Family History,

by John "Earl" Loughridge...

In this history, I cannot go back farther than my great-grandfather, whose name was John Loughridge. He married Margaret Wilson at a place called Stony River, MD. I have searched for this Stony River area, and I cannot find any river, town or Post Office by that name in the state of Maryland. However, I did talk with an elderly man who told me he used to haul coal out of a place called Stony River, and that is was located about 17 miles west of Cumberland, MD on Route 40, but the name has been changed. Additionally, I found a copy of a bond that George Loughridge, my grandfather, gave to the county commissioners of Allegany Co. MD, on August, 3 1846. Based on this information I am going to use Stony River, Allegany Co, MD as my family origin.

My father said that there were five sons and two daughters in great- grandfather's family, namely: Abraham, (b. 1819 d. Apr. 30 1853) Samuel, (b. about 1821) James, (b. 1816) John, George, (b. 9/7/1817) Anna and Catherine (Kitty).

My grandfather, George, together with his brothers, James, John, Abraham, Sam, and sister Kitty, (records show that their mother, Margaret also came with them), in the year of 1847 migrated through the wilderness and bought a tract of land between Mt. Zion and St. Clair churches on a branch of Sandy Creek in what is now Preston County, West Virginia.

When the brothers began to marry, grandpa George bought out James, John and Abe. He provided a home for Sam, who was unable to care for himself, and took care of him the rest of his life. Kitty moved into a log cabin on another part of the farm where she lived the remainder of her life.
My Father said that there were 5 sons and 2 daughters in great-grandfather's family,

***Note from Craig Loughridge, Grandson of John "Earl" Loughridge, Great-Great- Great Granson of John Loughridge of Middleton, Frederick MD***

I have found on FamilySearch.org, an International Genealogical Index match of John Loughridge married to Margaret, with the correct children. John listed his birth in the town of Middleton, Frederick MD, in 1792. The children are listed as being born in Allegany Co. MD. So I am going to use the origin of the Family as Middleton, Frederick MD. Dec 12, 2006
