We have fixed a glitch in the system that caused uploaded photos in portrait orientation to become landscape. We now maintain the orientation of the original uploaded picture.

The fix only applies to photos that were uploaded since midnight yesterday.

Does this mean that this GLITCH has always been there, or has it just appeared on your NEW UPLOADING ?.

Please clarify

It's always been there. We used to save the pictures the way they were uploaded. A portrait photo used to upload as portrait and landscape as landscape.

However, recently, especially for pictures taken from smart phones, all pictures are landscape with portrait pictures having meta data embedded in the picture saying that they should be rotated prior to display. We were saving this meta data (called EXIF) and hence portrait pictures were "sideways" (because most browsers ignore this EXIF information).

This has been fixed. We look at the EXIF flag and rotate picture upon uploading.

As no doubt you can see from Forum entries, espcially over te last year, I have been explaining to Members Queries on this, to upload their pictures in the correct orientation, before uploading to Albums, as it was not your error.

Owing to the EXIF not a lot understood this, so I mentioned to them that the error was on their part.

Obviously I take it that if a Member uploads a LANDSCAPE as a LANDSCAPE this will not be orientated to a PORTRAIT.

Thanks for your PROMPT REPLY
