Take you and I . I take it in good faith that you are IAN MARR
and that we have never met, and yet, you could be a neighbour of mine such as OLIVIER JONES SPINSTER.
Otherwise you could have a large Family, who all have Access to your IAN MARR. How do I know.
The main Reason of not putting you Name or as you state A Secret Message Sender is that usually these are specific messages to a specific person. This then usually makes a short FORUM REPARTEE..
If others read the messages ( Which they are entitled too)The normal practice is leave well alone. In fact it is not courteous to READ or JOIN in.
As a long standing Member ofTP14 years, this has always been the case.
Whether you put a NOM DE PLUME or YOUR NAME ( IS IT ?) As long as there is no abuse, but possibly HELP FOR the person
does it matter.
Also gives those who want to read othes mail somethingto do.
Regards
Les
As another long-standing TP member, I must take issue with you over people failing to identify themselves.
You say:
"If others read the messages ( Which they are entitled too)The normal practice is leave well alone. In fact it is not courteous to READ or JOIN in.
As a long standing Member ofTP14 years, this has always been the case."
Who says this is "the normal practice" and "this has always been the case."? I suggest that that attitude exists only in your mind. As a long standing TP member, I've never heard of it.
To the contrary, I consider that anonymity in such things as a TP Message Board is rude and ignorant. How does one avoid reading a message, when you see it there in front of you? "Oh, this is from some rude person, so I won't read it!" or oops, this rude person makes a good point and I have information that may assist, "but I won't bother to join in the conversation." That's just plain silly.
When there is no sender name how do I address them if I do get involved? In this message I opened with "Hi Les", in their case what do I say: nothing, "Hi ?" Hello ?" or something similar.
TP is supposedly vetting all messages to remove any offensive or inappropriate messages. They should include the removal of anonymous senders.

(who makes sure you always know who you are talking to).
I and others used to use this in 2003 and maybe that is why you had not come across it Possibly as you say it is my memory.
In those days TP was just a basic Family Tree with nothing like it is today.
Forum was used more than it is now by lots of Members, and I was the first to add HTML. Members wanted to know how to do tis, So obviously I started to on FORUM.
As possibly you can realise this took a lot of Forum so to let Members know I started to not put my Name which Members at that time knew was a HTML Forum Entry by me and also was e-mailing them.
Over the years not using the Name has and does crop up, but as I mentioned WE DO NOT REALLY KNOW who is the PERSON Named in any Forum entry, so is it just like any other Fotum Entry.
It is not really neccessary to Say Hello NAMr a Good Morning etc will suffice.
By the way your Entry below seemed to go further than mine regarding the CORRECT BEHAVIOUR on T P FORUM.
https://www.tribalpages.com/tribe/forum?f=1&v=1&mid=83082&rid=83082
contain offensive language (including use of symbols);
https://www.stuff.co.nz/about-stuff/87006221/terms-and-conditions-user-submitted-content-and-comments
contain offensive language (including use of symbols);
Not very nice is it

Yes, you are spot on in that the message you refer to was, shall we say, on the edge. I am aware of the terms and conditions. I wanted to make a serious point AND test the boundaries. Why? Because there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason about what messages are "censored" for want of a better term. That message, I expected, would have mysteriously disappeared like many others (for which there was no valid reason to censor). If it did offend you, and I suspect not, then my apologies.
As far as responding to messages I don't care how you address them, if they are put on a public forum, they are public. Even if someone said "PRIVATE MESSAGE TO LES" on the Forum, I would feel free to read it and respond to it.
For private messages there are other ways - Guest Book for starters if they are members of TP.
R****ds,
Ian Marr
My opinion is that Tribalpages should NOT accept members messages for printing if anyone uses an alias or does not include their name. Members should know who they are corresponding with. There is no reasonable excuse for not fronting up fully.
Also when A name of person is put,AS THE SUBJECT this should also be recognised that this is to them , not open to the Forum as a whole.
Regards
Les,
Nice to talk to you again Hope Flowers are blooming
My garden has done very well this summer. There is a short video on my home page. All Members are welcome to have a look and comment if they wish. Suggestions for improvements for next year are welcome.
I don't agree with your last sentence. A Forum should be open to all members to comment on any message that appears. If any other member wants to comment on what I say in this message, they are welcome.
If you want to send a personal and private message this can be done other ways. For example via the link in the top section of a home page. Tribalpages, apart from only allowing tree administrators to participate in Forum could find some way to ensure the site https etc is shown to allow for personal and private messages. Also some way for the tree administrator to turn this feature on or off,
and/or block a sender if this is being abused.
I think of Forum as open to all members to comment on anything raised. Here is one meaning from a dictionary.
"A website or section of a website that is used for public discussion of a specific topic and on which users can submit or read messages"
NOTE: PUBLIC DISCUSSION
If you have something secretive to say - do it direct and not through Forum. I stand behind any comment I make in Forum and don't delete my name from messages as some unknown person did to me recently. If anyone answers one of my messages and infers I am ignorant I hope that they would front up fully and put a name to their message. I most certainly would do so myself.
Take it easy Les. I noted in a recent message that you had not been well. I have told you in the past that there are more important things in life than Tribalpages Forum.
Best wishes,
Alan
Yes I will drop in and see the Video, although ONCE SEEN NEVER FORGOTTEN
After I had my Hip Replacement last year, I have been having trouble with my Shoulders ( constant Pain ) and I had been having Cortisone Injections. Supposedly on a regular basis. Doctor has been hit and miss Once a year instead of every three months
I had snapped both Tendons since 2012.
The shoulders have been giving me constant pain, and I find it difficult to lift my Arms to Eat also to Keyboard, so frustrating.
Now I find I have to have both Shoulders as complete Replacement. I go for premed on this coming Tuesday.
As for TP I have not done a lot as with my WELCOME HELPFUL site I am inundated with e-mails, as mostly on the FORUM it is to do with adding from one his than I , so I leave well alone.
What I can see here though is that these people Join Trees , and do not spend enough time reading the Program and Menus, to understand, and they ask for Help too quickly.
All the best
Les
