Can someone advise me on how to do the below.

I have large tree on Tribal Pages. I want to make gedcom splitting into two trees. I also want to leave all photos, citations, notes off. In other words want to split my paternal side off to start new tree on the paternal side of tree and just want Born, Died & Burial places and dates. I have a Family Tree Maker 2010 which will do this, except it leaves the notes attached.

It does remove the photos and citations but not the notes.

Have a look at RootsMagic 7. I am not sure if the free version will do all that you want but the paid version, which I have, does. Have a look at the link below.

Thanks Alan,

I downloaded the free version of Roots Magic 7. But it tells me that I need to upgrade to leave off notes.

I also downloaded Legacy and can't find a way of doing it on Legacy. Didn't want to buy full version but looks like I may have to in order to get results I want.

Thanks, Doyle

Hello Doyle. You might want to try this.

Download the Gedcom file into your home computer. If you have a respectable genealogical software, it should be able to generate an "outline tree" of say the paternal side of your family. Then convert that smaller file into Gedcom, and upload to TP. Then do the same for the maternal side.

I also have Roots Magic but am not sure if it can do that. I prefer using an old version of Family Tree Maker (FTW) as my workhorse software. I don't know about transferring notes since my massive database, with multiple trees, is devoid of any, as it is designed mainly for relational purposes.

For selected family trees, I post them separately on a different site, with notes and acknowledgements:

http://www.tanjaycity.org/familytrees/famtrees.html

All those PDFs therein were generated by FTW by just a few clicks of the mouse, except for the Indexes, wherein I use a simple filtering technique.

Roots Magic does a similar thing, with automatic indexing, but I find it inferior.

Hope this helps.

Danny

Hello Doyle, please disregard my previous voluminous reply. I misread your original query. I now see you have FTM and already have isolated the Paternal side of your tree, and now want to remove the notes.

I suggest you export the FTW file to Gedcom, but use the pull down menu to NOT to export, Fact 1, 2, 3, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Alan & Fernando for your input. I did solve my problem yesterday. I downloaded the free version of Legacy 9 and Roots magic 7. I tried each of them and couldn't get the notes removed. I talked to Legacy and their support told me he thought the free version would do what I wanted. So on another try. Not sure what I did different but it removed the notes. I now have what I wanted a gedcom with the names, born & died dates and places. With the notes, citations, photo's removed.

Appreciate your response D.D.
