Hi

I want to close my tribal pages account, but cannot find any instructions or reference to deleting an account.

I have already deleted the tree, so that is not my concern. I have tried emailing Support, but have had no response

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi, I am in the same position, when I started my tree on Tribal it was a free platform and membership was optional, however after I paid membership in order to get a CD of my tree, after that it would no longer allow me access unless I continued to pay membership, so I have decided to delete my account. I am not sure how to do it and it seems that support doesn't reply to queries from what I have seen on the Forums people are not happy. So I will delete all my information and that will be it. Can I ask whether you intend to transfer your tree to any other platform, are there any free ones out there? Best wishes.

Hello, Thank you for your response, it's obvious that we'll have to leave it at just deleting the information then - not very satisfactory though is it :(

My family tree was actually started by my mother, and she also created one on genesreunited.com - also not a free site, but at lease support does respond! So I am keeping that one up to date instead.

As far as I am aware, there are no other free ones - but perhaps check out familysearch.org.

An alternative option, one that my brother-in-law uses, is the purchase (again cost, but mainly initial outlay) of some stand-alone software for creating family trees, then you can choose to sign up for limited periods with the sites that offer the online research. Though you may also have ongoing annual costs for updates to the software. Worth considering though because at least the data remains under your control, and you can create CDs or get it printed whenever you want!

Best wishes

Hi, thanks yes I am looking at other options, they are all more expensive than Tribal but it feels a bit odd now as though there’s no-one there, prefer to know who is getting my money! I did my tree on Genes as a member as it was worth it when I was doing alot of census searches as they were included in the membership. If I need the odd search now I can go into my local Records Office and use Ancestry for free. I started using Tribal as a way of showing the information to family members and have bought CD versions to give them, however I have found unless they are into family history they quickly get bored with working out who is who! I had also thought of stand-alone software as what I need most now is a simple way of storing and displaying the information rather than the actual research, got a few Scottish lines to follow up still but not in any rush to do it. Good luck with your family tree. Best wishes.

Wikitree is completely free and is great. Nobody owns a web site and anybody can add information. Create a tree, search to see if your relative is already on the site and merge into your tree; if relative is not already on the site, add him/her. Everybody will be able to see this person and merge him/her into their tree if he is a relative. The goal is to have one single universal tree, because we are all related to each other.

Sounds interesting, thanks.
