Dear Friends,

Just made an unusual discovery in searching for my ancestors.

My paternal grandmother Daisy Amelia Pedrick comes up with two birthdates - one is on the 8 of June 1894 in Burma and the other is on the 18th January 1894 in Burma.

How do I get to know which is the correct date of birth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time and with best wishes

Colleen

The General Register Office, GRO, under Army Births, has three registrations for a Daisy A Pedrick one in 1893, at Rangoon, Volume 683, page 68, the other two in 1894, one with no place given, 697, 84 and the other as Rangoon, 728, 91. You could purchase all three to see if they relate to the same person or alternatively order a certificate for Daisy A Pedrick without a reference just giving the information that you have, presumably you know the parents names and then see what they produce.

Maybe the family were in transit when she was born and the birth was recorded by different sets of officials as no one was sure if it had already been done.

Dear Robsur

Many thanks for your reply and info on my query.

I will do as you suggest and see what happens.

Thanks once again and regards

I suggest that the first date is the date of birth and the second is the date of baptism or christening. One finds a few parish registers that mention both dates.

That was my initial reaction, but it does not explain why the GRO has not one but three registrations the first being even earlier than the earliest date given by the poster
